42 Cool Summer Nail Art Ideas
Every year I need to find the new, cool summer nail art ideas so I’m in in style while on vacation or at the beach. The big nail designs 2017 were polka dots, palm trees, pineapple, flowers (of course), or even an anchor or mermaid all on the ring finger only. And they might even continue to be the summer nail designs 2018! Glitter and ombre nail art are coming into style slowly, so I made sure to include them in the list too. The big summer nail colors are always bright or neon hues of colors like pink, yellow, red, the color of the sea: blue, and the beach favorite, turquoise!
Those trends can totally reappear this upcoming year or season, depending on where you are in the world and when your summer is. The French have a similar season schedule as the US so it’s fall or winter, but summer is still coming up! If you’re from Australia, summer is right around the corner and the 2017 summer nail trends can still apply to you! They’re cute so you wouldn’t even need to check your country’s manicures.
I made this list of all these simple and easy nailart tutorials, you won’t know what to try first! I have them for all sorts of nails, shapes, and design! Whether you like getting your acrylic coffin done in the salon or at home, there are many ideas you can either DIY or get done by a professional. You can wear any of these from work (because summer breaks don’t exist anymore) to the coral reef. You’ll turn all those fish faces onto your nails, but these can also be for toes!
1. Tutorial : Summer Nails
A blue look to go with the beach water but not camouflage! When I first saw this I thought this would have been so complicated, but looking at just the step by step pictures I already felt so relaxed. It’s the perfect idea and guide for summer nail designs.
2. Cute Watermelon Pink – Stripes
Watermelon colors are so welcomed during the summer! The bright version is cute and perfect for summer BBQs that will actually have watermelon. Plus, this ring finger look is DIY possible to save you money and quick for when the BBQ is in an hour.
3. Summer Pineapple Nails
Here is the biggest summer 2017 trend making its comeback from irrelevancy during the winter: The Pineapple! They were on everything from clothes, swimsuits to having radios in the pineapple shape. One bright pineapple would be so cute for toes. You could even keep the rest of your toe nails simple and pink.
4. Summer Beach Nails with Blue Ring Finger Fun
I love the studs they used for their ring finger! I had to buy for the coffin nails I do at home! The shells and blue are just so absolutely perfect for the summer beach. It’s making me wish it was summer right now or that I was a mermaid always living summer.
5. Cute Red DIY for Toes
If you’re going out on a ship for vacation, try out this look to attract lifeguards faces. It’s a sexy red and nautical theme nail that would go so well with that free red swimsuit everyone on Instagram tried to get. That was a fun experiment.
6. Coral Watercolor Style – China Glaze
It’s a water color ring finger coral look! How dang fitting for the summer time. I need to do this look for a picnic out with my boyfriend. It’s just so cute and I love how well it looks with short nails because I cannot keep my nails long when I’m typing all day.
7. Turquoise Starfish and Glitter
It’s not a Patrick Star nail tutorial but if you change the blue to pink and green to coral, you’re almost there. I wish I would have done this for my summer trip to Florida when I rented a house and it was all sea themed. I loved that house, and I miss that fun trip by the beach.
8. Almond, Rounded, Stiletto Fruit Manicures
This strawberry nailart idea made me hungry… for summer! You have to be quite talented for this tutorial since it isn’t a DIY, but for my girls that can afford to get their nails done professionally or at least for a special occasion, show them this look! It would look cooler in a rounded, stiletto, or almond shape so the strawberry looks a little more realistic.
9. Summer Palm Trees Ombre
My predictions are right, cute summer nail designs 2018 will include ombre and palm trees. Thank you Pinterest for confirming. Ombre nail hack: put the colors on a make up wedge and press it onto your nails. The blend is seamless. Then just draw the palm trees with a nail pen.
10. Easy Nail Designs with Flowers
This orange is such a great color for summer when everything seems brighter from nail art to life. She used nail decals to get that paisley print, so don’t freak out about how to do that because I already did, and I just told you the trick! Use a complementary and fun color to the decal you decide to use.
11. Simple Bright Blue Short Nails
I had to know how she did that watercolor, marbling effect on her nail and it was so easy! You just spread the colors on a plastic surface and put them on your nail. I would swirl the colors together and then press my ring finger, or all my fingers, into the nail polish.

The Nemo and Dory fish looked too realistic in this nail art to be real. It took me a while to figure out how they could have done that with the few nail colors they showed, but now I know! They just printed the little nail accents on a paper small and short enough to fit on a nail, placed it on while the paint is wet, and then sealed it with a top coat. Easy peasy are my nail hacks.
