34 Matte Makeup Tutorials
Growing up I had very bad acne-prone, oily skin that still haunts me every single day through shiny t-zones and acne scars. Thankfully, there are plenty of matte makeup tutorials and products that help me look the best I can while hiding one of my biggest insecurities. It’s honestly so great how many matte products are coming out and becoming trendy. That way, when I go overboard on matte products all over my body, from eyeshadows, to liquid lipstick, to nail polish, it just seems like I’m into the look rather than I’m trying to hide dark spots all over my face.
Surely there are more people out there trying to fully cover their faces while looking natural. I wanted to put together a list for women of all ages and make up skill set, beginners to professionals, who have the same type of skin as me, so we all knew the tips, beauty secrets, and foundation to fake perfectly clear skin and finish the look with the right eyeshadows and lips. The list contains a lot of useful ideas and products from the best full coverage, matte foundation, to the best looks from spring to winter, how to do a matte cut crease eyeshadow, daytime to nighttime makeup tutorials, and even a wide range of product prices from drugstore to Urban Decay. I hope this helps you find exactly what you need and want to feel your absolute best while having to deal with what is my worst feature.
1. Makeup How-To: Get Summer-Ready, Gorgeous Matte Skin
The first thing this step by step tutorial talked about was how greasy summer skin can look. Oh how much I can relate! Summer is the worse time for oily skin because we need more matte makeup but want to wear less makeup period. Their tricks help with the amount of products you put on skin, like only putting primer on your T-zone and skipping a thick, matte foundation for a BB cream.
2. Matte Smokey Eye Makeup Tutorial
Matte eyeshadows are great to balance or hide oily eyelids throughout the daytime or night. This smokey eye look can be used for either time of day because it could look be interpreted as natural from the neutral colors, or dramatic from the hues. Either way, you wouldn’t have to reapply as long as you use a good matte primer for your eyes.
3. Smashbox Full Exposure Palette Matte Makeup Tutorial
This Youtuber is very honest with how the matte concealer and foundation looked on her dry spots: not great. She provides a good “don’t” product for those with combination skin, oily skin mostly in the T-zone and dry skin in other areas. She does the whole eye makeup look with a single, good palette, which is all you really need of eyeshadows if you want many makeup looks in a budget. Red lipstick is a good change of color for fancy nights, while natural pink can be worn with this look in the daytime to simplify.
4. Step By Step Matte Mauve Makeup Tutorial
Her purple, or “mauve”, matte liquid lipstick look caught my eye. I love the matte lipstick trend and she paired it so well with her matte eyeshadow pallet. It’s very purple, but it looks great for night outs with your best friend drinking wine, like she did. She inspired me to not be afraid to try one-color makeup looks. Matching eyes and lips, here I come.
5. Classic Fall Matte Makeup Tutorial In Neutral Colors
This natural matte makeup look is stunning! The little sparkle of eyeshadow in the inner corner really adds and draws the attention to your eyes. To make the look natural, you can stop at any stage throughout the tutorial for your daytime makeup. So no matter how late you are, you’ll have a good matte look to cover the oily skin that will surely come up. To transform into a nighttime look is just as easy. Just continue the tutorial adding a winged eyeliner and false lashes.
6. Everyday Drugstore Makeup Tutorial For Matte Neutrals
This tutorial is great for my wallet! She uses drugstore products so I could totally commit to the products and this look daily. This is also a great makeup look for South Asian, Indian, or dark skin, who aren’t always very well represented in the beauty world. The good thing about this tutorial is she does the necessary in the beginning so you can stop again when you have to leave for school or work, or skip the steps you find unnecessary.
7. Step-by-Step Matte Neutral Eye Makeup Tutorial
I love this step by step guide because it is actually really easy. You probably already have these matte products because they’re makeup essentials. Black liquid eyeliner and matte neutral eyeshadows are beauty basics, just like the application of this natural makeup look. It doesn’t get simpler than these neutral eyes.
8. Kat Von D Full Glam Matte Makeup Tutorial
This tutorial is different because it’s a matte daytime glam makeup look. She is only using Kat Von D, so if you really fall in love with one of the products, it might be worth the investment. The full coverage, matte foundation is will last you, especially for those with oily skin like me, through day and night since it has such a thick consistency. Her beauty trick with the tape on the side of her eyes for her eye makeup is funny to see be done, but actually has a beautiful even finished look.
9. The Ultimate Matte Makeup Tutorial
This beauty blogger had a really cool gif graphic for her tutorial. It would be really easy to follow if you already know how to basically use most make up products. She uses high-end matte beauty products like Urban Decay, but has tips on using any generic make up product you have to complete the look. My favorite is her tip with the matte lips. You don’t have have to go out and by a Kat Von D liquid lipstick, when lip liners are much more affordable and are naturally matte.
10. Bright Matte Lipstick Look with Maybelline
You can find all these products at Walmart or your local drugstore! This tutorial is also great with makeup for indian skin. She can relate to those with dark skin because it’s difficult for her to find a dark enough bronzer for her to properly contour her face. Her whole look is matte, even the eyeliner, which I’ve noticed is usually the only product that isn’t actually matte in these tutorials.
11. Instagram “Baddie” Makeup Tutorial- Matte Eyes, Dark Lips + OUTFIT!
How to look like a baddie? This is the tutorial to show you. The make up look is really dark so it’s good for fall and winter night outs since it can be a little dramatic. How would you be a baddie otherwise? She matched her foundation to her neck and body which is a good look because in pics, especially with flash, my face always looks so white. Now, it may actually be as white as it looks, but it makes me look like a ghost since my body is actually much darker than my face, in pics and real life.

The liquid lipstick is a very light brown: a good choice of makeup for brown eyes that often get hidden. This girl also uses the most popular, and pretty expensive eyebrow product of the time, Anastasia’s pomade, but it made her eyebrows perfect. Maybe it’s worth the cost?
