35 Best Makeup Tips For Asian Women
Hey everyone! I’m not Asian, but I keep getting tons of requests my opinion on the best makeup ideas and tricks for Asian women. Why is that? Well, I have a TON of Asian friends from so many different asiatic countries. Some are friends from growing up, some are from college, and some are friends of friends that have become a part of my friend group. They all know that I write makeup and beauty tips and one day it came up in conversation that some of my articles aren’t super helpful for Asian women. They brought up the fact that for Asian skin, it’s important to use certain foundations that work better. They also brought up the fact that makeup tutorials for monolids / single eyelids would be really helpful. So I took it as a challenge to go out and find the absolute best makeup tips that exist for Asian women. After I came up with my initial list, I ran it by some of my friends to make sure that it checked out and what I have for you today is my final draft. Some of these are more difficult, but for the most part, these makeup tips are quick and easy to pull off by following along.
Asian skin and hair are very distinct in their features, and as such, can be really hard to find makeup products and work well with them. Asian women also have certain facial features that if made up properly, can really play to their advantage and give them makeup looks that no caucasian woman can pull off. Below is a list of what I consider to be the absolute best makeup tips for Asian women, including some awesome smokey eye tutorials, some Asian hooded eye makeup for making your eyes pop and look bigger, and a few other great ideas that I think look amazing on Asian women.
1. Smokey Eye Tutorial For Asian Women
I am obsessed with smokey eyes for monolid eyes. I think that Asian women are able to rock this look better than anyone else and I’m super jealous of it. This tutorial is great because her instructions are numbered by steps and kept really short so you can follow along really easily. I think the rose gold look is great for formal events and I would try it with an updo or half up half down look.
2. Korean Makeup Idea For Asian Skin

This look is incredible. First of all it takes a serious commitment to make your Asian hair look like this and then you have to add texture like curls in this case. Finally, you have to throw in blue contacts and then you have to apply a light or pale foundation and then do a little bit of smokey eye above the eyelid. I threw this look in here because some of my Asian friends said this was a really great shot that they wanted to copy and try.
3. Natural Eye Makeup Look For Asian Eyes

I think this is a really unique look that can work for someone with a slightly extended monolid. She uses a bit of glitter but it’s not that much and works well to accent the eyeliner. I think this look makes the eye look a bit rounder which is an effect that some women want.
4. Beginners Tutorial For Asian Hooded Eyes
Youtube star, Wengie, does such a great job of being super thorough and detailed in her tutorials. The dark lip smokey eye look reminds me of the vampy lip makeup that I’ve been seeing pop up lately. This Asian twist on it is beautiful because it uses the smokey eye look to accentuate the dark look. A great combo that Asian women can absolutely dominate.
5. How to Apply Eye Shadow to Asian Eyes
The way you apply eye shadow to Asian eyes is a little bit different than how you apply it to caucasian eyelids. The monolid has to be lifted to get the eye shadow to coat the entire area of eyelid to prevent spots when you later are at the party and raise your eyebrows or blink. The trick is to not go to far about the top lash line. The further up you apply the purple eye shadow, the more drastic the look.
6. False Lashes – Tips To Make Asian Eyes Look Bigger
Youtube – Xteener
False lashes are a God send. I don’t know how I get along without them. I have tried so many build-able mascara’s and they all get clumpy and come off on my skin. And the bottle gets clumpy after a few uses or dries out before I get halfway through the bottle. False eyelashes are also really popular among Asian women because they tend to have thinner lashes. Give falsies a shot and I’m pretty sure you’ll be hooked. They definitely make your eyes look bigger which every girls wants.
7. Eye Makeup For Asian Monolid Eyes
This tutorial is great because it’s just step by step images that walk you through pulling off this look. As I mentioned above, I think single lid Asian women can pull off a few looks better than anyone else. This cat eye makeup tutorial looks amazing on a moonlid and the images show you exactly how to blend your eye shadow to make the accented liner really stand out.
8. Best Makeup Foundations for Asian Women
Asian skin is different than caucasian skin. Overall, my research has shown that yellow foundations work the best for Asian skin as a rule. Obviously there are exceptions but this is one that you should start with if you need a place to begin. The other consideration with foundation is the type of skin you have. Do you have T zone oily skin (combination skin) or do you have dry skin that needs moisture? Almost all brands have a yellow based foundation in their arsenal so the trick is to find the brand that has a yellow base that also has the right moisture or matte levels to match the oil levels or acne levels of your skin. If you have breakouts and acne scarring, you might need to consider something with a little bit of pink in it to help conceal the blemishes.
9. Smokey Eye Makeup for Hooded or Asian Eyes

If you’ve got hooded eyes, this smokey eye tutorial is another take on my favorite look. The way that she goes about doing her eye shadow accents her eyes perfectly. I think one of the reasons that smokey eyes look great on Asian women is that their skin is generally lighter and more fair, so the smokey look stands out more. If you don’t have the fair skin, consider using a yellow foundation that is super light to help make this look pop.
10. How to do Brown Smokey Eye for Asian Women
Youtube: Raychel Wade
In this tutorial, instead of black, she goes with a brown look for her smoky eye which I think is really interesting and works well for a slighter darker Asian skin tone. She packs on a ton of shadow at the lash line and then blends upwards. As she mentions, for all blending, it’s really important that you can’t distinguish where one color starts and another color ends. She adds some shimmer to make it more sexy which is a look I can definitely get behind.
11. Asian Eye Makeup Tips
As she mentions in the tutorial, about half of Asian eyelids are “single lid”. Not having the crease presents challenges that must be dealt with using different eye makeup techniques. One of my favorite tips that she shares is for eye shadow: use the darkest color near the lash line and then as you work your way up, end with your highlight color of choice under the brows. This gradient is dramatic and can be accented with liner to give you a very sexy look.

I love this look and it looks so great on super fair skin so that the colors really pop. The purple and the red contrast super well. The red lip would stand out against any natural colored hair, so many Asian women could pull it off. She uses a cat eye that is accentuated by her monolid which I think is great. The best product she used was this foundation that feels light but has good coverage. She might think it’s the best foundation for Asian skin, but I’m going to have to try it myself to cover blemishes.
