31 Hair Straightening Tutorials
If you are like me and you’ve found this article, it’s because your hair naturally has some curl and texture that you want to straighten out. Enter this list of my favorite hair straightening tutorials. Sometimes I love my curls but there are a lot of looks that I just absolutely need my hair to be straight for. When I was younger, I used to just take my Ghd Classic Flat Iron and just fry my hair completely flat but I knew there had to be a better and healthier way to do it. So I started researching how all these women with curly hair were able to rock beautiful straight locks without completely destroying the health of their hair.
If you do a quick search for hair straightening tutorials or tips, you will see thousands of Youtube videos, Pinterest images, and blogs explaining how this or that product is the best way to tame your curls. Well, if you have started trying them, you will notice that a lot of them don’t work and it can be frustrating. Well, that’s where I come in. Whether you are looking to use products and chemical hair straightening ideas to help with your curls, or you want to understand more effective ways to use a flat iron, I have come up with my go-to list of simple tricks and techniques for how to get your hair perfectly sleek. The best part is that if you do these right, you can get perfect straight hair and still have volume to spare. Since you are going to have all the tools anyways (flat iron, etc..) I decided to throw in a few of my favorite hairstyle tutorials for taming your curls into beachy waves and side swept looks that I think are a great way to maximize the look of your curls.
1. How to Get Perfect Straight Hair: 8 Easy Steps
This step by step tutorial will show you an incredibly simple way to turn those curls into straight hair. Hair products work together with a straightening flat iron to make this a 5 minute process. If you want to get perfectly straight hair that is sleek like the pro’s do at the salon, you are going to have to use their tools. That means product and equipment. The good news is that if you get product like this, you can guarantee yourself straight hair every time, however, it can be a bit expensive.
2. How to Use Hair Straightener Cream
Ever use hair straightener cream? It makes all the difference and this hair product doesn’t cost too much. It makes it so you can pull this look off after work before you head to happy hour! Seriously, hair straightening cream is a pretty incredible invention. While I wouldn’t use it every day, it’s sometime that I keep with me in case humidity goes up or I spend an afternoon outside and my hair gets curly again before I have a party or an event that night and can’t make it back home before going out.
3. Hair Straightening Tutorial – Flat Iron With Bend
This is a beauty hair hack that I love and think any girl with medium length or long hair should try. Throwing that bend in gives you a unique and creative look that will actually add volume to your hairstyle. By having the hair bend at the end, it pushes against itself and adds a little bounce. Also, I really like the idea of having a little flair at the end to give my style a bit more personality than just completely straight hair.
4. Sleek Hair Hack – Give It To Me Straight
I love this tutorial because she makes it super easy to follow along to help you go from curls to straight hair without all the frustration. Again, you’ll notice that she uses straightening spray and a wide brush to help her make it a lot easier. The great news is that this is a no-heat tutorial so you can give your hair a little break every now and then.
5. Straight Hair: How to Get it Looking Perfectly Sleek
First, this article goes back to the basics and explains that getting sleek hair is about giving your hair the protein and nutrients it needs. That starts with the shower and what kind of shampoo and conditioner you use. If you don’t nourish your hair, it can’t get a sleek protective coat. I also love that in this article they talk about heat protectant spray. One of the worst things about straightening hair is applying heat because it absolutely destroys the proteins in your hair. This leads to brittle and unhealthy hair strands. You can protect against this with the spray before you use your flat iron to get that sleek look.
6. Silky Straight Hair Tutorial
Great basic hair straightening tutorial. She reminds us to go back to the fundamentals of using a flat iron. You have to do it layer by layer obviously but you want to start at the bottom of your scalp and make sure to do 1-2 inch sections and to get as close to the root as you can!
7. Long-Lasting Frizz Control Blow-Dry
Trying to tame your hair to keep the frizz down. There is no better way than with this blow dryer technique that will help you keep your hair in control all night long, even if you have to stand outside in the wind (that might be a bit of an exaggeration). But the Beauty Department does have great info on getting sleek straight hair and this is a pretty interesting technique for preventing frizz that I use regularly.
8. How to Straighten Hair – A Tutorial
For a natural hair straightening technique, scroll down to number three. It gives away my two favorite recipes for natural hair straightening : the first is coconut milk and lemon juice. The second is eggs and olive oil. They aren’t perfect, but if you are trying to stay away from chemicals, this is a great way to tame your curls a bit. Remember to shampoo really thoroughly after.
9. DIY Hair Straightener -No Heat Straight Hair
No heat straight hair with a DIY product? Yes, please. For all you DIY ladies out there, I have found this amazing way to turn those curls into sleek straight, beautiful hair without spending any money on product. Again, I am a huge fan of any hair straightening tutorial that advocates staying away from heat because I don’t want to keep frying my hair. That’s unsustainable in the long term.
10. How To Straighten Hair Without Using Heat
Again, I love any tutorial that shows us how to straighten our hair without heat. Applying too much heat too often will ultimately leave our hair looking brittle and weak. We want to keep our hair looking healthy and thick, we need to occasionally stay away from the treatments and products. If the eggs and olive oil recipe above doesn’t work for you, try this one: Brown sugar and water; spray onto damp hair and let it dry. I swear it works and actually doesn’t frizz much at all.
11. Simply Straight Ceramic Hair Straightening Brush
I threw this one in here because if you want to look like a pro did it, you have to practice like a pro, and they have all the tools to their advantage. This brush is really interesting. I found a friend that had one and it really does make your hair look straighter and straightens it a bit. I think it just makes the top layers look straight but the hair below is not, so it keeps it’s volume. For some hair, I can see this not working out as well but it was nice for me.
